Growing to around 90ft30m. It will become a large spreading tree if grown in isolation. It is native to southern Europe but is widely planted elsewhere for its edible nuts the traditional Christmas roasted chestnuts. The wood is used for panelling and beams. Due to its resistance to exposure it is also used for fence palings.
